Post shooting trauma often affects the memory, cognitive thinking, and decision-making ability of an individual involved in a critical incident. This workshop will identify the signs of post shooting trauma and provide the knowledge, skills and abilities in managing critical incident trauma issues. It will describe how everyone involved in the critical incident, to include officers who did not discharge their weapons, will go through some degree of physical and psychological trauma. Often times individuals involved in critical incidents or extreme situations, experience such things as tunnel vision, audio suppression, or “memory misplacement” of crucial facts. This workshop will provide officers, crime scene investigators and prosecutors incite on how these phenomena’s occur and how they can be prevented. It will further assist executives in designing and implementing a clear strategy that includes responsibilities and assignments for everyone in an operational plan, ensuring the proper handling of any traumatized person.
